Weather and Climate

Because of the variety of its physical environment, the climate of Epirus is very varied. The mountainous regions are characterized by long, hard winters with heavy snowfalls, low temperatures and moderate summer temperatures. Lower elevations are characterized by frequent rain and cool summers. The climate of the lowlands and coastal areas is quite different, being Mediterranean. There, the winters are light, temperatures rarely fall below freezing, while in the summer, it is hot and it rarely rains. As a result, because of its varied climate and in combination with its contrasting landscape, Epirus makes for an attractive destination any time of the year.
